The new active models are distinguished from their passive siblings by a "C" at the end of their product name. DALI's new Oberon C system, consisting of two active speakers and the Sound Hub Compact, is designed to be very easy to use and does almost everything wirelessly and automatically.

The new series was developed especially for music fans who want to stream music from their smartphone to two speakers with uncomplicated operation, as well as for TV viewers who want to enjoy the sound of TV in their living room. The cabinet and chassis have been taken from the corresponding sister models of the passive Oberon series, the two watt amplifiers and DSPs integrated in each loudspeaker for distributing the audio signals to the tweeter and bass-midrange drivers, however, are new, as is the Sound Hub Compact.

This preamplifier is only three centimeters high, so that it can also be hidden vertically behind a TV screen. The system can be expanded with an optional active subwoofer that makes contact with the Sound Hub via an RCA cable. Facelift for DALI's established mini speaker "Menuet": The loudspeaker with its baffle of only just over DIN A5 is now available as a Special Edition with a high-gloss polished real wood veneer of the "wild walnut" variety.

DALI OBERON 1

OptimusPrime9 Novice Member. Are'nt they both Dali's entry level range? I doubt there is very much difference between them. What don't you like about your current speakers, often a slight adjustment in positioning can reap rewards. As far as upgrades go little point in taking baby steps but by taking bigger improvements you can improve audio certainly speaker wise but at a cost.

OptimusPrime9 said:. The Dalis are fairly forward sounding, bright. Denons can play on this and they don't seem all that well suited. The Marantz with it's more laid back 'warm' approach would help tame the Dalis brightness and was more suited to how you heard the music.

Sometimes people confuse detail with brightness and perhaps the Denon is more clinical.

KEF speakers, more benign that the Dalis would suit the Denon better in my opinion. Free delivery and returns on eligible orders. Q Acoustics S Graphite Slim, stylish and packing a mighty twin-bass punch, the Q Acoustics S provides a solid foundation for both movies and music.

You should try playing around with the Denon's treble tone controls. Might sort your problem for no additional expenditure. That means you need to combine with a warm amp. Class A ampfliers from Xindak can tame the top end. Or Marantz is a safe option. Well there be any sound difference between the two you mentioned I doubt it.The driver materials, crossover design and geometry applied in the OBERON series has been selected to achieve a wide dispersion pattern. This ensures a well-integrated sound, even when listening at a significant off-axis angle.

An added benefit is seriously reduced harmonic distortion and diffractions causing frequency distortion. This is why all DALI speakers are not designed to be toed-in. This look is enhanced by the elegantly shaped aluminium base mounted on the two floor-standing models.

The OBERON woofer features a wood fibre cone with a blend of fine grain paper pulp, reinforced with wood fibres, which creates a stiff, light-weight and well-behaving structure. In combination with a low-loss surround and spider suspension, this cone reproduces the micro details in the signal - unfiltered and with high accuracy. The use of the SMC disk greatly reduces mechanical distortion, which lowers third order distortion. This allows for a longer listening pleasure, a relaxed midrange and a surprising amount of detail for its price class.

Like its larger siblings, the OBERON 1 makes use of the oversized 29 mm ultra light-weight soft dome tweeter to handle the highs and detailed mids, while the SMC based 5. The same principles have been applied in the design of the crossover. As result, you will experience a well-integrated sound, even when listening at a significant off-axis angle.

This is important as you are rarely seated directly in front of your loudspeakers when listening to music. An added benefit is seriously reduced harmonic distortion and diffractions causing frequency distortion, as these will always be stronger in an on-axis response.

This is also the reason why all DALI speakers are not designed to be toed-in. The 5.

It is dedicated to reproduce the delicate midrange and bass frequency area - like every other driver made by DALI. It is constructed from a blend of fine grain paper pulp and reinforced with wood fibres, which creates a stiff, light-weight and well-behaving structure.

The membrane terminates in a rubber surround that is chosen for its soft and very flexible properties.

This gives the membrane free movement with a very low dampening effect, and leaves the magnet motor to control the membrane movement.

This improvement in the magnet motor system results in a lowering of the third order distortion. This allows the OBERON 1 to present longer listening pleasure with a relaxed midrange and a surprising amount of detailing for the class.

The magnet motor itself consists of a large ferrite magnet that sorrounds a pole piece made with a unique combination of iron and SMC. The iron ferrrite forms the lower base of the pole cylinder, topped of with 10 mm SMC disk to crown the pole piece.

This combination minimizes the negative effects of the iron, while placing the SMC disk right in the main working area of the 4-layer voice coil. This placement ensures the maximum effect from the SMC on the voice coils environment, resulting in a greatly improved constant flux field. The large size of the membrane lets the tweeter generate higher sound pressure with less excursion, keeping the voice coil motion to a precise minimum.

The oversized 29 mm membrane is constructed based on an ultra-light wave weave fabric and is additionally optimised for a larger bandwidth in its lower frequency area. This ensures the optimal handover from the midrange woofer to the tweeter, creating a well-balanced, unforced and very coherent upper midrange.

BEST SPEAKER FOR AUDIOPHILES ON A BUDGET - Dali Oberon Series 2020

Compared to most soft dome tweeters in the market, the DALI dome material is less than half the weight 0.Even hardcore audiophiles sometimes fall in love with extremely favorable offers. The Danish loudspeaker specialist DALI is currently launching one interesting new product after the other. Here, DALI has really taken care of the tonal qualities. The Danes are actually time and again surprising their fans with loudspeakers that are hardly considered possible. So a little more budget is good for even further amazement.

On the one hand we have a fabric dome that is already capable of extraordinary dynamic performance due to its size and lightness, on the other hand the DALI-typical cone diaphragm of the bass-midrange driver is made of paper and — now— somewhat more subtle wood fibers. The added value compared to Zensor is provided by technical progress, but also by the exclusive design, which is anything but cheap.

How is it even possible to offer such loudspeakers for Euro each? However not, as many of its competitors do, as contract production by third-party manufacturers, but by DALI personnel with DALI quality management and ingredients developed in-house — meaning above all the drivers —, all manufactured in their own factory in China.

Sure, the 13cm driver naturally has some difficulties to reach into the deep bass ranges. However that lies is in the nature of things and is physically similar to its competitors.

Soundwise, the smallest Oberon is an agile and crispy fresh, even somewhat cheeky and characterful speaker, whose joy of playing infects the listener. It brings the necessary energy and is a lot of fun, reminding us of the enormous class of her bigger siblings, while also having that touch of gentleness that makes even bad recordings bearable. A great bargain! For a pair price of around Euros, DALI's Oberon delivers virtually unbelievable qualities that are strongly reminiscent of their big brothers and sisters and can be considered a huge bargain.

The lively speaker even looks attractive too! Absolutely top in this class! Price: ca. The frequency response is quite balanced, which promises neutrality.

They are a two way, rear ported design, just like all of the established competition. The tweeter uses a 29mm soft dome, which is claimed to be considerably lighter than that used on most rivals. Dali has long preferred this material for its low weight, rigidity and fine self-damping properties.

It keeps things simpler, and lets the user concentrate their budget on a single high-quality speaker cable, rather than spreading the cost between two runs. There are four finish options — black ash, white, dark walnut and the light oak of our review sample.

At 27cm tall these speakers are compact enough to fit unobtrusively into most rooms. Dali has tried to keep this speaker as versatile as possible, even including a rear panel fixing to make wall mounting easier.

While these speakers sound notably more balanced than most rivals when used right up against a wall, if possible, we suggest pulling them around 30cm into the room to make the most of their excellent stereo imaging and midrange clarity.

Speakers this small are never going to produce loads of bass. There are rivals that dig up as much information, but few deliver it with such a sense of passion and enthusiasm.

Tonally, these are nicely judged with a smooth treble that still has plenty of bite and a full-bodied presentation that sounds impressively confident and composed. That controlled attitude remains unchanged, even at higher volume levels where most rivals would start to harden up.

On the surface these may look like a posh pair of Spektor 2s, and there are certainly some strong visual similarities. But aside from the limitations of size, they produce a quality of sound only the very best at this level can get close to. They really are a joy.
